Exonumia

What is Exonumia?

Exonumia are numismatic items (such as tokensmedals, or scrip) other than coins and paper money. This includes “Good For” tokens, badges, counter-stamped coins, elongated coins, encased coins, souvenir medallions, tags, wooden nickels and other similar items. It is related to numismatics(concerned with coins which have been legal tender), and many coin collectors are also exonumists.  As quoted by Wikipedia.

Transportation Tokens

One type of token is a transportation token.  These tokens include but are not limited to:

  • Ferries and Watercraft
  • Buses, SubwayTrains,Trams,Trolleys, Taxi cabs, Airplanes
  • Amusement rides e.g. ferris wheels, zoo trains, slides and more.

The American Vecturist Association specializes in World Wide Transportation Tokens, Car Wash Tokens, Parking Tokens as well as AVA Related Personal Tokens.

The membership catalogs these items and then creates catalogs for members as well as non-members to do their own research and collect these items. As individuals find these items, they report them, and they are added to the master list.

Vecturist’s can acquire new items by trading or buying tokens form other members, assorted web sites, flea markets, antique stores, auctions, and many other ways.  The easiest way of course is to be a member of the AVA and trade, buy, auction, and sell with the membership.

As a rule, you can increase your collection at the best prices through members who have acquired extra tokens and are willing to part with them.
